Cedars House is the perfect place for family and friends to meet up for a relaxing weekend near the famous River Wye. With Monmouth and South Wales just a few miles away and the beautiful Forest of Dean on the doorstep, Whitchurch is the perfect village for time away from it all.
Cedars House is a 6 bedroom wing of a Georgian house, part of an old asylum, set in the beautiful Wye Valley, minutes from the renowned Symonds Yat. Located on the Herefordshire side of the border between England and Wales, the towns of Ross-on-Wye and Monmouth are both within easy reach.
We welcome families to Cedars House for their annual holiday in beautiful Herefordshire. We have travel cots and high chairs available for very small guests - please request when making and enquiry or booking. There is a selection of games at the house to help entertain younger members of your family. Unfortunately, we are unable to accommodate pets at this time.
The interior has been lovingly restored by award-winning textile and fashion designer Jan Knibbs and her husband, Jonathan. It is brimming with vintage finds from her extensive collection in a romantic, shabby chic style, making it perfect for a family get together.
Altogether, Cedars House offers a pretty, welcoming hall, an impressive drawing room with plenty of comfortable seating, a dining room where guests can all eat together and a farmhouse style kitchen with a small dining table.
Upstairs there are five bedrooms, one offering a king-size bed and a single, two with double beds, and two twin bedded rooms. Downstairs there is one bedroom with a single bed. Although there is a ground floor bedroom with a toilet available on the same level, it should be noted that the nearest shower room is up six steps on the half landing of the staircase. All bedding and towels are provided within the cost of the rental.
There a family bathroom, an en-suite shower room plus a separate shower room.
Please check our floor plan to see the actual bed positions in the house.
It is situated in an area of outstanding natural beauty, on the edge of the village of Whitchurch, within easy walking distance of the local shop, various pubs, tourist attractions and stunning countryside.
Whitchurch is located on the A40 between Monmouth and Ross-on-Wye and is easily accessible from the motorway network, making Cedars House the perfect meet up point for all your guests.
There are many activities and historical sites with 30 minutes of Cedars House. Just ten minutes drive away from the house you will find Goodrich Castle, a wonderful ruinous Norman medieval castle.
Jan and Jonathan Knibbs welcome you to Cedars House which they have lovingly restored over the years. They married in 1992 and bought the house a few years later. It provided a lovely family home for their children Jake and twins Alice and Matt and gave them the space they needed to run around and play many games such as "hide and seek". The house was turned into quality self catering holiday accommodation in 2015 and, as of November 2024, a six bedroom wing of the house is available as a holiday let with 6 bedrooms sleeping up to 12 guests. Please note: We now live in the other wing of the house. Both wings are completely separate and self contained but some outside space is shared for parking and access.
Five families from Northampton and lots of kids and dogs! We had a wonderful time in this lovely quirky house....thank you!
